2. A pipeline 12 km long is to be designed to deliver water from a river through a pumping station to the inlet tank of a treatment works. Elevation of delivery pressure head at the pumping station is 50 m o.d. (above datum); elevation of water in tank is 25 m o.d. Neglecting minor losses, compare the discharges obtainable using: a) a 350 mm diameter plastic pipeline which may be considered to be smooth (i) using the Darcy-Weisbach and Colebrook-White equation (4) (ii) using the Blasius equation. (4) b) a 350 mm diameter pipeline with an effective roughness of 0.6 mm (i) using the Kármán-Prandtl rough law (4) (ii) using the Darcy-Weisbach and Colebrook-White equation. (4) n
